This is the Ackermann, London, 1817 publication of Oliver Goldsmith’s The Vicar of Wakefield, A Tale, the first edition illustrated by Thomas Rowlandson, with all 24 hand-colored full page illustrations present and unfaded.
The red/brown leather cover (9.5″ x 6.125″), with etched border motif, has cracks to the sides and fraying to the ends of the spine, as well as a number of small scuffs and bumped outside corners (see photo). However, both front and back covers are attached. The spine, with faded title, is straight.
The inside (254 numbered pages) is in good overall condition, with no stamps or other attachments, and no writing. The binding is secure, with no loose or missing pages. There are no notable tears. There are recurrent creases, most of which are superficial. There are scuffs and small stains, but no prominent stains, and no stains that obscure the lettering or art, all of which is in good condition.
The above photos are accurate reflections of that art and general book conditions.
