This is a later printing of the 1844 first edition publication (app. 4.5″ x 7″), by Edward Moxon, of the two-volume (250 + 275 pages) Elizabeth Barrett Barrett work, Poems.
This is a recovered pair, with no attribution as to bindery. The Volume 1 is a later printing of this first edition. Volume 2 (the end on page 275) is a second printing of the first edition. The original covers are bound-in at the backs of the volumes (see photo). The straight spines, adjacent areas, and outside corners, light brown leather, are in very good condition, as are the marbled boards. The five raised bands, gilt decoration, and gilt lettering in dark red squares, are unfaded and unstained.
The insides are very good overall, with recurrent light stains, but no prominent stains, and no stains at all to most pages. There is no notable fade to any text, all of which is clearly legible. There are a very few shallow edge tears, most notably to the outside edges of a blank end page in volume 2. Almost all pages have no tears. The bindings are tight in both volumes, with no loose or missing pages. There are no stamps or like attachments.
