These are Volumes 1 through 3, published in 1765, of Anthologie Françoise, ou Chansons Choisies Depuis le 13th Siècle jusqu’à Présent (64 + 318, 317, 320 pp.), a survey of french music from the 13th century to 1765.
The painted calf covers (app. 7.375″ x 5″) are worn, with weakness to all hinges, though no covers are (yet) detached, and with notable edge wear, including some missing surface material. The spines, with extensive gilt decoration, are also scuffed, with 3 of the title and volume labels missing, and with wear to those still attached. The bottom of volume III’s spine is missing material.
The insides are in very good overall condition. The only attachments are the bookplates of Jacobi Solis Cohen, to each front inside cover. I’ve found no writing.
The three frontispiece engravings (Portrait of Monet, L’ Ésprit, Les Talens, La Beauté and Venus, Amour, Bacchus), the full page engravings at the starts of the Memoire and Chansons Choisies, and the numerous smaller decorations, are in excellent condition.
There are occasional stains, most notably stains to the bottom edges of initial and final text pages, and other blank end pages. Most pages are unstained. The red page borders are unfaded. All the text, including all musical notations, is unfaded and clearly legible. There are no notable page tears or creases.
The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of the book’s conditions.
