.........................
This the three volume (421, 417 & 384 body pages) first printing, by La Veuve Gandouin, Giffart, David l’ ainé, Jombert and Durand, all from Paris, of the Jean Charles, Chevalier de Folard work, Abregé des Commentaires, L’ Histoire de Polybe, with 122 (51/22/40) attached etchings.
The mottled leather covers (app. 10.25″ x 8″) have scuffs and some cracking at the spines, but all hinges are reasonably secure, with no looseness to any front or back covers. The five raised bands to each cover are scuffed but in very good overall condition. The gilt lettering and design are faded but legible.
The patterned inside cover spreads are clean and unfaded. The only stamps are the personal bookplates of King Lawrence Parker, to each second inside spread. There are a few end page notations, but no writings or notations throughout the book bodies. There are a few wormholes, starting at the gutters, extending 1″or 2″ into the pages. These continue 10 to 20 pages. Almost all pages have no such damage. There are a number of stains, but none that are large. All 122 etchings are present, securely attached at the spines and in very good overall condition, with occasional small stains, but no notable fade or tears.
The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of this copy’s conditions.
