This is the October, 1941 printing, by L’ Imprimerie J. Dumoulin, for L’ Édition d’ Art H. Piazza (Paris) of Joseph Bédier’s version of “Le Roman de Tristan et Iseut” (196 numbered pages), with 48 color illustrations by Robert Engels.
This book has been recovered by Schiaffino, whose name is printed in gold at the base of the inside front cover. The cover (app. 7.375″ x 9.625″), full leather with gold decoration and lettering, two double and two single raised bands, is in very good condition, with surface wear at the hinges and shallow bumps to the outside corners, but with no substantial stains (one spot stain) or notable tears, no visible fade to the gilt work, and with no weakness at the spine, which is securely connected.
The decorative inside cover spreads are clean and unfaded. There are no stamps or other attachments there or elsewhere. There is no writing in the book. The pages are clean throughout the book, with all the illustrations and text as new.
The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages. There are no page tears or creases. The gilt page tops are bright and clean.
The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of this book’s conditions.
