.........................
This is the complete Works of Peter Pindar (John Wolcot), originally envisaged as a three volume set, but eventually expanded to five volumes, the first three being published in 1794, the fourth in 1796, and the fifth in 1801.
The painted calf covers (8.625″ x 5.5″) are in good condition, with some dryness and surface wear at the spine, but with little fade to the gilt – five flat bands, four radiating circles, volume numbers in circles and titles in black squares – and with all spines straight. There is edge wear and light scuffing, but no significant tears or stains. The painted calf, to each front and back, has scuffs, but little fade and no prominent flaws.
The only illustration is a frontispiece portrait of Wolcot in Volume I. This is in very good condition. There are no stamps or other attachments. I’ve found no ink or other indelible notations. The bindings are tight throughout all five volumes (444, 487, 423, 500 and 466 numbered pages, with additional indices at the end of each volume), with no loose or missing pages. There are few stains, most of these being darkened borders to the blank end pages. There are few creases and no notable tears.
The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of the book conditions.
