This is the first printing, 1785, of Tiberius Cavallo’s The History and Practice of Aerostation, (326 numbered pages, plus index and illustrations).
This is a recovered Franklin Institute copy, with a newer cover (app. 8″ x 5.25″). The title, author, and catalogue number are stamped, in gold, on the spine. The front cover has the blind de-bossed name Franklin Institute. The front inside cover has the name of the donor, Dr. Wahl. Three pages, including the two multi-panel illustrations ar the back of the book, have the institute name pin-pierced (see photos). The page adjacent to the title has the blind-embossed name of the engineer/test pilot/furniture maker Stefan S. Cavallo. The back inside cover has residues of previous attachments. There are no more extraneous elements.
There are recurrent light stains, but no lettering is illegible.
The binding is secure, with no loose or missing pages. There are no notable tears or creases. The two multi-panel illustrations, at the end of the book, are securely attached and clearly legilble (see photos). The accompanying photos are of this copy.
