This is copy #224 of the undated (1912) Hodder & Stoughton publication, limited to 350 copies, of Oliver Goldsmith’s play, She Stoops to Conquer, or The Mistakes of a Night, signed by the illustrator Hugh Thomson on the copy page.
The full vellum cover (12.5″ x 10.25″), with extensive gold lettering and design, has smudges and light stains, but it is in good overall condition, with no prominent stains, and with the lettering clearly legible (see photo). The attachment to the inside is secure. There is slight curl from the spine to the outside edges.
The inside (197 numbered pages) is very good. There is glue bleed-through to the first and last pages, and recurrent light stains, mostly handling smudges. to the borders. Most pages have no stains.
The art and text are clean and unfaded. The twenty-five pasted in color illustrations are in fine condition — securely connected and with no fade, stains or tears.
The binding is solid throughout, with no loose or missing pages. The gilt edge tops are faded but otherwise in good condition. There are no notable tears or creases. There are no stamps or other attachments. The only writing is the copy number and Thomson signature.
The above photos are accurate reflections of the book conditions.
