This is the 1687 two volume, Chez Claude Barbin (Paris) leather covered publication of Oeuvres de Racine (372 & 434 numbered pages.
The covers (app. 6.375″ x 3.75″), marbled boards with ten leather corners and spines, are in very good overall condition, with secure attachments at the spine and with no prominent stains. There are handling scuffs and shallow wear to the outside corners. Volume 1 is curved, top to bottom (see photo). The gilt lettering is clean and legible, as are the gilt decorations to the spine.
The only extraneous element is the ex libris stamp of Anatole Basseville, to the front inside cover of Volume I. There are no writings or notations. Most pages are clean, but a small number have notable stains, none of which obscure the text. The bindings are tight in both volumes, with no loose or missing pages. I’ve found one shallow edge tear, with missing material that extends about half an inch into the blank border area. The ten full page etchings, each with its tissue guard in place, are in excellent condition.
