This is the L’ Édition d’Art H. Piazza 1941 publication of Joseph Bédier’s rendition of Le Roman de Tristan et Iseut, profusely illustrated by Robert Engels, and recovered by Schiaffone (196/7 pages).
The cover (app. 9.5″ x 7″), textured leather with extensive gold decoration and lettering, has scuffs to the sides of the spine (see photo) and shallow bumps to the outside corners, but it is structurally sound, with no weakness at the hinges and no looseness at the connection to the pages.
The inside is near fine, with the decorative inside spreads clean and unfaded. There are no stamps (except the binder’s imprint) and no other attachments. The pages are clean throughout, with no stains or scuffs, no tears, and only a small number of superficial creases. All the art is in new condition. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages. The accompanying photos accurately reflect the book’s condition.
