This is the Van Der Hoek printing (xlvi page preface, 138 body pages, plus table des matières), stated as a London publication, but possibly printed in Amsterdam, of André François Boureau Deslandes’ L’Apotheose du Beau-Sexe, with the frontispiece illustration in place and in very good condition. This is dated 1712, but there appears to be some dispute as to the actual date of publication.
This is a complete copy with a worn cover (app. 3.75″ x 6″), which has surface cracks and some missing material to its securely connected leather spine, on which the lettering is legible. The marbled paper-surfaced boards are worn to their edges, particularly at the outside corners, which are bumped and which are missing some material (see photo).
The inside cover spreads have ink stamps, which I can’t decipher. That stamp is repeated at least once in the body pages. There is a blind-embossed stamp of a previous owner, on the front end page, and an ink initial stamp on the right side of the title page (see photo).
There are a few pencil notations to the inside covers. There are no other stamps or attachments, and no other writing. The binding is secure throughout, with no loose or missing pages. The frontispiece is present and in very good condition (see photo). I’ve found one page tear, with no material missing.
The text is clean and unfaded throughout. There are few stains or creases.
