Into the Night Life | Henry Miller

$1,500.00

Israeli artist, Bezalel Schatz (14 March 1912 – 1978) met Henry Miller (26 December 1891 – 7 June 1980) while living in California. The two become friends and collaborators. The artist Man Ray noted that “I have never encountered such smooth cooperation…”  about the two men. Bezalel produced serigraph prints for Miller’s novel, “Into the Night Life”, an innovation for both the art and publishing worlds.

This fine, first-edition copy, signed by both men, is from the library of Arthur and Dorothy Goldberg.

.........................

This is copy number 124 of the noted “one and only” edition of Henry Miller and Bezalel Schatz’s “Into the Night Life”, published by the author and artist in 1947. This copy is signed by the author and artist on the limitation page (see photo).

This is also signed and dated (7/23/60) by Miller to Arthur (Secretary of Labor, Supreme Court Justice, UN Ambassador) Goldberg and his wife, Dorothy, on an otherwise blank front end page.

There is no other writing in the book. There are no stamps or other attachments. The pages are clean throughout, with all art and text (from Miller’s earlier work, “Black Spring”) as new. The clear acetate title page is in perfect condition. The slipcase is worn to its edges, but structurally sound. The book itself is in fine condition, with no stains, tears or creases to the cover or any interior areas. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages.

The accompanying photos are of this copy.
