This is the W. H. Allen and Company 1914 publication of J. Hogarth Milne’s profusely photo-illustrated “Great Britain in the Coronation Year” (477 numbered pages).
This was a copy of (Baron) Henry and Gwen Melchett and James MacKenzie Davidson’s, whose bookplates are on either side of the inside cover spread. There are no other attachments or stamps. There is no writing. The cover, full leather with elaborate gilt decorations and writing, has a surface split toward the top of the front hinges, and wear to the edges in several place.
Both front and back hinges are reasonably sound, with no sign of any imminent separation. The spine is slightly cocked but securely attached. The inside is in very good condition, the most notable flaws being to the title spread, in which the frontispiece portrait of the king and queen is foxed to the borders, but with no notable fade or stains to the live areas, and in which the gutter side of the title page has a tear at the mid-point. That page, as all others, is securely connected. I’ve found no other tears.
The many illustrations throughout the book are in very good condition, with no pronounced foxing or other stains. The text is unfaded and clean throughout.
The accompanying photos are of this copy.
