This is the 1772 printing, by the Officina Typografica, of Joaquim Carneiro da Silva’s translation into Portuguese of M. Clairaut’s Elementos de Geometria (251 numbered pages), with numerous multi-panel fold-out illustrations.
This copy is in very good condition, with shallow edge wear and two notable scrapes to the leather cover (app. 7.75″ x 5″), which is clean overall, with no prominent stains. The spine, with 5 raised bands and extensive gold decorations and lettering, is clean, unfaded, and legible. The marbled inside cover spreads have no notable fade, no stamps or other attachments, and no writing.
There are several notations to the end pages, but none to the body pages. There are a few stains to the end pages, but almost none, and no substantial stains, elsewhere. There are two pinhole performations to the upper right border of approximately the last 75 pages. These don’t interfere with text or graphics.
The 14 fold-out illustrations are in very good condition. The binding is tight, throughout the book, with no loose or missing pages.
