This is the two-volume second edition of Comte Turpin commentary on military strategy, Commentaires sur les Institutions Militaires de Végèce (467 & 445 numbered pages), published by Chez Nyon l’aîné, Paris, in 1783.
This two volume set is in very good overall condition, with bumps and shallow edge wear to the two full leather covers (app. 10″ x 8.75″). Volume I is split at the top and bottom spine front, but both volumes are securely connected, with no notable looseness to the hinges. The five raised bands on each have surface scuffs but no substantial stains, with the gilt design and lettering clearly legible.
The marbled inside front covers have personal ex libris labels (King Lawrence Parker). There are no other stamps or other attachments. There are pencil notations to the end pages, but none throughout the bodies. The pages are in unusually good condition, with surface rippling, but no tears, and with all text as new. The multi-panel illustrations are clean and unfaded, with a very few, shallow tears at the folds, but with no prominent tears. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages.
