.........................
This is the 3 volume 1769 publication, by Lacombe and Lefay (Paris), of Turpin de Crissé’s Commentaires sur les Mémoires de Montecuculi (397, 438 & 523 numbered pages), with the complete set of 43 engravings.
The covers (app. 8″ x 10″), mottled brown leather with gold design and lettering to the spine, have a number of scuffs, splits at the ends of some hinges, and surface stains, but no substantial stains and no loose front or back covers.
The marbled inside spreads are clean and unfaded. There are a number of notations and names to the end pages, but no writing to the body pages. There are loose bookplates (see photo), apparently previously attached, but with little residue to previously attached areas. The only current attachment is a small printed review of this edition, attached to a front end page. All 43 etchings (17,18 & 8) are present (each numbered and in the correct sequence) and in good condition, securely bound, unfaded and complete. There are a number of shallow tears, to the illustrations and to some pages, but no deep tears, and no tears of any kind to most pages. There is surface waffling to many pages, and there are a few corner creases, none of which interfere with the lettering, which is in unusually good condition.
