Annales, The True and Royall History of the famous Empresse Elizabeth, Queene of England France and Ireland.

William Camden (2 May 1551 – 9 November 1623) Annales was the first detailed historical account of the reign of Elizabeth I of England. Camden began his work in 1607 but it wasn’t until 1625 that it first appeared in English, translated by Abraham Darcie.

The Annales were not written in a continuous narrative but give each of the year’s events a separate entry. Unlike earlier annales, he didn’t rely on gossip, but based his work on oral interviews and written documents. He’d begun the work five years after the death of Queen Elizabeth I and was witness to her reign.

This is a very scarce copy of the first english edition.
