This is number 308 of a limited, 600-copy Hodder and Stoughton (London) 1925 publication of The Brothers Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel and Other Stories (275 numbered pages), with twelve tipped-in full color illustrations and ten in-page black and white illustrations by Kay Nielsen, who signed the book on the limitation page (see photos).
The cover (app. 10″ x 12.5″), decorative red and gold boards, rust red spine on whiche the title/author label is black with gold lettering, is secure and unfaded, with slight, shallow scuffs to a few edges, but no stains or like flaws.
The inside is clean throughout, with no stains, no loose or missing pages, and with all text and art as new. The decorative inside cover spreads are unfaded (see photo), with no attachments there or elsewhere. The only flaws are a shallow edge tear to one tissue guard, and small holes to the border area of a second tissue guard, from that guard’s previous attachment to the upper inside border (blank area) of the adjacent page, not touching the art (see last photo). The only writing, other than the artist’s signature and the copy number, is a gift notation, on an otherwise blank front end page, noting this as a Christmas gift (Love and a Merry Christmas to Martha from Grand Father Maxwell 12/25/26).
