.........................
This is the 1760 W. Sandby publication of George Lyttelton’s Dialogues of the Dead (320 numbered pages), imaginary conversations with historical personages.
The leather cover, clean overall but with shallow edge wear and a few scuffs, has cracks to its front hinge and surface wear to the back hinge. Front and back covers are connected. The spine, with five raised bands and extensive gilt decoration, is securely attached, but slightly cocked.
The inside front cover spread, which has a cracked gutter, has the bookplate of Nath(aniel) Cholmley, Cassis Tutissima Virtus, and several pencil notations. There are no other stamps or other attachments, nor is there any other writing. The pages are almost uniformly clean.
The title page and one leaf at the end are sunned to their borders. All the text is clean, unfaded and unstained. Three leaves are have upper outside corner creases, compensation for the additional paper in the original printing (see photo).
The accompanying photos are accurate representations of this copy’s condition.
