This is copy number 367 of the limited, 500 copy printing, on velin verge, of Virgile Josz’s study, “Antoine Watteau” (226 pages), published by L’Édition D’Art, H. Piazza et Cie. (Paris), and introduced by Léonce Bénédite.
This is undated but was apparently published in 1904-05. This has numerous plates, most full page black and white, but with several in color, and a number of in-page smaller drawings. The full page plates have titled tissue guards, all of which are in good condition.
The cover (app. 12.75″ x 15.75″), textured cream backing with gold lettering to the front and spine, has a red stain to the front edge of the spine (see photo), slight darkening to the borders, and a surface crease to the upper middle of the spine, but no substantial stains and no fade to the gilt. There is some looseness to the hinges, but there is no visible separation, and no loose or missing pages. The inside is very good, with shallow chipping to many outside edges, but no deep tears and few creases. There is light sunning to a number of borders, but no stains of note.
All the text, in French, is clear and unfaded, as are all the art reproductions. The only writing is the copy number. The only stamp is a small attachment (Bogenhallen, Alfred G. Hassing, Raadhuspladsen 37 [Copenhagen]) to the top of an otherwise blank front end page.
